Traction Gas Struts

Traction gas struts are used wherever flaps are pulled or lifted, or where conventional gas struts cannot be used due to a lack of space. They function the other way around to conventional gas struts.  This means that gas traction struts are pulled and are not compressed. Nitride protects against corrosion.

A traction gas strut consists of a compression tube and a piston rod with a piston that is pulled inward by the gas pressure in the cylinder and thus supports the manual force when, for example, closing a flap. The traction gas strut is filled with nitrogen which is used to provide the pressure for suspension. In the unloaded state, the piston rod is always retracted. The volume in the cylinder decreases when the piston rod is pulled out and the gas is compressed. The valve allows the tractive force to be subsequently adjusted. Compared to conventional gas struts, the service life of the traction gas strut is approximately halved.

Traction Gas Strut Applications

Our traction gas struts are used for ramps for wheelchair patients or vans. Flaps that are pulled or lifted and trap doors or doors that are closed by a drop weight are cushioned.  Furthermore, traction gas struts are used for tailgates that open downwards or folding attic ladders to access attic spaces.
